In acupuncture for cancer pain, clinical studies showed that acupuncture provided an immediate analgesic effect similar to that of codeine and pethidine, and was even more effective at pain relief after 2 months of treatment.

In acupuncture for radiotherapy and chemotherapy effects, acupuncture can greatly lessen the adverse effects on the digestive and nervous systems, and can protect against damage to haematopoiesis (generation of blood cells).
