ACUPUNCTURE FOR MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN

Acupuncture for Muscle, Joint, or Bone Inflammation
Combined with joint movement restriction, such musculoskeletal conditions can be treated very successfully with acupuncture, be that for a chronic bone or joint disorder or a traumatic sports injury.

Acupuncture not only alleviates pain, but reduces muscle spasm, thus increasing mobility. Joint damage often results from muscle malfunction, and many patients complain of joint pain before any changes are recognisable by X-ray. In these cases, acupuncture can bring about a permanent cure. Controlled studies of acupuncture for muscle and skeletal pain (including joint pain) have provided evidence of show it is in favour of better results in comparison to standard therapy treatment. The evidence pertains to musculoskeletal conditions such as:

  • Cervical spondylitis
  • Neck pain
  • Periarthritis of the shoulder (frozen shoulder)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Fasciitis
  • Epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
  • Lumbago (lower back pain)
  • Sciatica
  • Osteoarthritis (and knee pain)
  • Radiating pain

Acupuncture for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Acupuncture is also beneficial for rheumatoid arthritis: whilst it may not improve already-damaged joints, it does give much pain relief. More importantly however, acupucnture works to reduce the inflammation and also improves the dysfunctional immune system.
