OTHER TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) THERAPIES

The Hong Tao Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine practice is pleased to offer a host of TCM therapies as part of our commitment to complete patient healthcare. TCM does not just incorporate acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, but a variety of other therapies that work alongside TCM fundamental principles and work as an integrated healthcare system, where necessary. Not all patients will require all of these treatments, but, in addition to your acupuncture treatment, Sarah will provide these therapies as an adjunct if she feel that they will benefit you, all as part of your TCM treatment. Some of these therapies are as ancient as TCM itself, others encompass the essence of TCM and combine its philosophy with modern technology to provide a more effective benefit to treatment.

Moxibustion
Moxibustion or 'Moxa' is a heat-source treatment that utilises Chinese herbs to warm target areas and/or acupoints on the body having a benefit for pain, stagnated energy and cold-type syndromes. It is a completely safe treatment and very effective for a wide number of ailments from digestive problems to gently turning a breech baby. We only use smokeless moxa rolls in our clinic to avoid irritation. Your acupuncturist will determine whether the use of moxa is beneficial during your treatment.

Electro-Acupuncture
For some partucular syndromes and diseases, acupuncture treatment can be more effective if the needles are stimulated with light pulsing movement during the patients resting time. Occasionally, the practitioner may provide this stimulation manually, periodically during treatment. However, it can be more beneficial to use electrcupuncture where a device to which the needles are attached generates continuous electric pulses throughout the course of treatment. It is a compeltely pain-free and safe treatment that supplements the effectiveness of acupuncture. Your acupuncturist will determine whether the use of electroacupuncture is beneficial for your treatment.

Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture
There are as many as 200 acupuncture points on the ear, that can be used as a sole therpay or as an adjunct to body acupuncture. It is especially effective as a continuation treatment after the patient has left the clinic; by sticking seeds to the acupoints on the ear, the patient can stimulate the points themselves by simply applying pressure to the points with their own fingertips thereby extending the effectiveness of the treatment. Ear acupuncture is especially beneficial for addiction (smoking, drug, alcohol), weight loss therapy and various pain disorders.

TDP Magnetic Heat Lamp treatment
The TDP Lamp is a type of electromagnetic mineral therapy utilising far-infrared heat emissions to promote the natural healing process of the body. Due to its heat-source element, it has a similar benefit to moxibustion: tonifying the Qi energy of the body, effective for reducing inflammation and calming pain (benefiting arthritis and musculoskeletal disorders), improving micro-circulation and balancing metabolism and promoting immune function. It is a remarkably safe treatment; your acupuncturist will assess whether use of a TDP lamp is beneficial for your treatment.

Cupping
Cupping involves placing glass cups with reduced air pressure (suction) on the skin. Similar to the benefit of acupressure and shiatsu type massage, the vaccum created within the cup dispels any dampness or stagnated Qi and/or Blood, improving Qi flow and thereby promoting healing. It is mainly used on the back, neck, shoulder and is especially beneficial for vaious musculoskeletal conditions.
